On February 18, 2015 Civic Media’s Anna Feigenbaum delivered a workshop on data visualisation for the IRIN news network. As part of the United Nations, IRIN reported from the frontlines of conflicts and natural disasters around the world for nearly 20 years. In January 2015, IRIN spun-off from the UN to become an independent non-profit media venture specialising in crises, with a main editorial hub in London, UK. As part of their transition, IRIN is developing its digital team and data-journalism capacity. Civic Media BU was invited to share the latest research and practice emerging around data visualisation and investigative journalism. Presenting alongside industry experts Malachy Browne and the Bureau for Investigative Journalism, the training sessions provided an excellent opportunity for Civic Media to make new connections.
